FAQ

A group of enthusiast engineers and consultants from IntellectEU came together to brainstorm about different ways of leveraging their skills to fight COVID-19. Quickly, they came up with the idea of mimicking the spread of the virus, creating a positive pandemic. This idea transformed into the platform available today. The complete background story is featured in this post.

In the past few weeks, various fun challenges have been emerging on social media to show our solidarity in these trying times. By combining these challenges with a straightforward way to donate to the UN Foundation and COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for WHO, people from all over the world can spread love to support both doctors and nurses as well as the populations hit the hardest by the novel coronavirus. By gradually “involving” more and more people with your love and support, #SpreadLoveNotCorona will cross oceans and borders, showing the impact each one of us can have to #flattenthecurve.

By creating a username, you receive a unique link that you can use to donate or share and spread the love with all your friends, challenging others to #SpreadLoveNotCorona. As more and more people start spreading love, you will be able to find out how many people you “involved” with your love (friends, friends of friends, their friends!) and see how much money was raised because YOU shared your love!

The World Health Organization is leading and coordinating the global effort of combating the spread of the novel coronavirus, supporting countries to prevent, detect, and respond to the pandemic. The greatest need right now, is to help ensure all countries are prepared, especially those with particularly susceptible healthcare systems.

We chose to support this charity because they have a broad impact; from tracking and understanding the spread of the virus; to ensuring patients get the care they need and front-line workers getting essential supplies and information; and to accelerate efforts to develop vaccines, tests, and treatments.

More information about the initiative can be found here: https://covid19responsefund.org/

Your donation goes to activities guided by the Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan, which organizes the response along three main pillars:
  1. Coordination across regions to assess, respond and mitigate risks;
  2. Improve country preparedness and response and
  3. Accelerate the research and development.
Donations to the Fund will enable WHO and partners to support countries to:
  • Build up lab capacity and provide critical supplies such as reagents and tests;
  • Protect vulnerable patients and front-line healthcare workers through coordination and delivery of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE);
  • Treat the most vulnerable populations, including setting up intensive care units;
  • Coordinate global research and development efforts for life-saving products and innovations;
  • Improve community engagement, by ensuring the world has clear, authoritative, and evidence-based guidelines to inform response;
  • Enhance transparent communication so that communities have access to the best information to protect themselves.

We make use of http://www.pledgeling.com to process the donations. Donations received by the Pledgeling Foundation during a calendar month are batched together and regranted, usually by paper check, within the first fifteen days of the following month.

We email a receipt immediately after you make a donation, and it will provide the information you need to substantiate a deduction. Search your email, including your junk or spam folder, for "Pledgeling."

Pledgeling Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a regranting program that efficiently distributes tens of thousands of donations each month from individual donors and businesses to their preferred causes.

Pledgeling Foundation operates as a "donor-advised fund", which means that donations are initially made to it and are immediately tax-deductible in the US. Donations to Pledgeling Foundation are made via a variety of online donation tools. At the time the donation to the Pledgeling Foundation is made, the donor specifies which US 501c3 they want the donation to go to.

Once Pledgeling Foundation receives a donation, it is obligated, to the best of its abilities, to re-grant the funds, less processing costs, to the 501c3 organization specified by the original donor, in this case the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for WHO.

Yes, donations to Pledgeling Foundation are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law and your personal tax situation. Pledgeling Foundation is an IRS approved 501(c)3 entity so donations to it are treated the same as to any other non-profit.

We email a receipt immediately after you make a donation, and it will provide the information you need to substantiate a deduction. Search your email, including your junk or spam folder, for "Pledgeling."

The tip is optional and can be adjusted, including to $0.00. The tip is displayed to you prior to you approving the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount so do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization or personal fundraiser beneficiary. Because tips flow immediately to a for-profit service provider, under IRS rules they are not tax deductible to the donor.

All donations are processed in United States Dollar (USD) or Euros (EUR).

For every donation, a proof of payment will be stored on R3 Corda, making it possible to verify each donation. In this process, no personal information is used.

No. For performance reasons, we update the statistics every 5 minutes.

Direct Impact is the impact coming from yourself and the people that signed up through your link. Let’s call these users your ‘direct children’.
Total impact includes your direct impact, but also takes into account the impact of your direct children and their children and their children… It thus tells you how many people got involved in a direct- as well as indirect way through your link and how much they raised.

On the leaderboard, we only show direct impact for the following reason: Let’s assume I am user A and user B signs up through my link. Furthermore, user B is the only user that signs up through my link. User B is very popular and convinces 1000 people to sign up through its link. My direct impact (as user A) would be 1, while my total impact would be 1001. If we used total impact to rank the users in the leaderboard, user A would always rank higher than user B.

Sure! Just go to ‘check your (friend’s) impact’, fill out your username and donate again. These new donations will be linked to your username.

Apart from donating, there are a number of ways to help. The best way to support the goal is to “involve” other people by sharing your personal link — we want everyone to spread love! Don’t forget to include a call-to-action, include #SpreadLoveNotCorona, and spreadlovenotcorona.io.

Help make this as big as possible. When you see #SpreadLoveNotCorona posts on social media, do all of us a favour and like/upvote/RT/share/comment. Being generous with your attention helps get the message out!
